Malbork Castle is located about an hour drive out of the city and it is an amazing castle built by the Teutonic Knights in the 1400's. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Polish National Historic Monuments list.
National parks
Bialowieza was established in 1921, this is Poland oldest national park. Sharing the border with Belarus, it was the old hunting ground of the Polish monarchs and Russian tsars. The park is the original home the largest land mammal on the European continent, the bison, which has been reintroduced into the wild after dying out in the early 1900's. A lot of the park has been free of human disruption, so you can see the forest in its original state.
Bory Tucholskie National Park is an area of forests and lakes covering 17 square miles and is home to some 140 different species of birds. You can travel along one of the many bicycle trails or walk along the many paths and get lost in the forest.
