History
Prior to becoming a part of the kingdom of Hungary, the area where Slovakia is located, was part of the first west Slavic state, Great Moravia. Then, as part of the kingdom of Hungary, Slovakia became part of the Hapsburg Empire. After the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Slovaks and Czechs formed Czechoslovakia this lasted until 1993 when it broke apart and both countries became independent states.
