Background information

Glasgow Airport started as an overflow for an RAF base in Abbotsinch in 1932, and was formally recognized commercially in 1966. Just six months later, it was recording over 1 million passengers and business would continue to grow. In the 70's the runway was extended for larger jets and an additional terminal was created. Together with another £55 million expansion in the late 80's, Glasgow Airport was able to accommodate 6 million passengers a year. As demand grows, Glasgow airport is now looking to extend its borders even more so as to eventually accommodate 16 million passengers annually.

The airport has a wide range of facilities for passengers to use, such as work space for business travelers, childcare facilities and children’s play areas. The recently developed Terminal 2 features one of the world’s most sophisticated baggage screening systems and a vast range of eateries and shopping options.
