Background Information
Arlanda Airport began life in 1962, and quickly saw a rise in intercontinental traffic with the US. In the 60's and 70's, traffic continued to gain traction, and jumbo jets were pioneered early on from this airport, with scheduled flights to New York. In the late 70's, the international terminal, now known as Terminal 5 and the most widely used, was built and has since been expanded to include three piers and over 30 parking stands for passengers. Terminal 4 began in 1983 for domestic passengers, and Terminal 3 was built in 1990 and helped to spread the domestic passenger load. Traffic has evened out today, and due to environmental reasons not all runways are used all of the time.
Four terminals are used in Arlanda Airport, and feature a number of good facilities and amenities to cater to passengers. “Sky City” features a number of restaurants, shopping facilities and bars, and the airport has over 50 conference rooms available for up to 700 people, with a myriad of hotels on site.
The outstanding location of the airport, located just 42 kilometers north of downtown Stockholm, means that you can immediately take advantage of the primary road network with a car rental Arlanda Airport and through into Sweden, an open yet discreet country that hosts some stunning UNESCO World Heritage Sites and makes for perfect outdoor getaways. Stockholm itself is regarded as the natural capital and heart of Scandinavia, and is well worth a few days to take in its awesome beauty, alongside its food, music and culture. You can also easily access roads that lead into the rest of Scandinavia and all the major cities in the area, such as Gothenburg and Oslo, with a speed, convenience and personal freedom that public transportation just can’t beat. There is so much to see in this part of the world, and a car hire Arlanda Airport can make this journey a reality.
